Home to the high school musical each spring, our state-of-the-art theater features retractable seats, fly-loft, moveable orchestra pit, advanced lighting and audio system and can be used in numerous different configurations as the stage for breathtaking productions. Whether it is making Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fly or Shrek’s swamp come to life, our theater can handle whatever the middle school musical sends its way.
From former US Presidents and the Japanese Prime Minister to Yo Yo Ma and Herbie Hancock, the ASIJ Theater plays host to compelling special guests and visiting performers. Behind the scenes, a fully-equipped workshop and professional-level audio-visual system, mean that students learn all aspects of the creative process and can discover their talent on or off stage.
Not every show demands the main stage and this flexible performance space is used for smaller-scale productions, such as student directed drama. Whether it is being used as a meeting space, for presentations, rehearsals or for a performance, the Black Box can adapt to a variety of needs.
The MPR is equally at home hosting a Japanese dance performance by our students learning Nihon Buyo or transforming into a jungle for the Elementary School Musical. The flexible space with retractable seating also makes it a great spot for presentations and guest speakers.
From impromptu magic shows and flash mobs to Vocal Jazz Ensemble entertaining the high school during a barbecue to hosting student and faculty bands at Spirit Day, the Courtyard is a great place to put on a performance.
